The second concert in the two-part Early Romanticism for Cello and Piano series is dedicated to highlights of the early Romantic repertoire for cello and piano. Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata, one of the finest works in the 19th-century chamber music repertoire, captivates with its lyrical expressiveness and warmth.
Schumann’s Stücke im Volkston draws inspiration from folk music, while Chopin’s Introduction et Polonaise brillante combines virtuosity and elegance with a lively, dance-like character. The concert concludes with Mendelssohn’s Sonata No. 1, in which Classical clarity is intertwined with Romantic expressiveness.
