Prešeren Day, Slovenian Cultural Holiday

On Prešeren Day, there will be free admission to Ljubljana's museums and galleries, several concerts, theatre performances and film screenings and a number of other events.

The Slovenian Cultural Holiday is dedicated to honouring France Prešeren (1800-1849), the most important Slovenian poet, who is remembered not only for his Romantic poetry but also for his efforts to modernize the Slovenian language. Particularly well known are his sonnets and the poem A Toast, adopted as Slovenia's national anthem.

Over the first week of February, Ljubljana will host a series of open-air concerts by singing choirs and vocal groups. The latter will perform at locations where Prešeren lived, spent his time and met people.
