Cello of the Future

Peter Gregson is one of the most original contemporary cellists and composers from the United Kingdom. His work lies at the intersection of classical music, electronics and film music, combining the acoustic sound of the cello with electronic layers to create distinctly contemporary and sonically rich musical worlds.

Gregson achieved international recognition with his 2018 album Bach Recomposed, released by Deutsche Grammophon, in which he reimagined Bach’s cello suites for multiple cellos and electronics. He also composes music for film, television and dance; his work has featured, among other places, in the series Bridgerton, as well as in films, ballet productions and projects for fashion houses such as Burberry, Balenciaga and Bvlgari. He has collaborated with artists including Max Richter, Ed Sheeran, David Dawson and Paolo Sorrentino. In recent years, he has also explored immersive and spatial sound, as well as new ways of experiencing music—not simply hearing it, but experiencing it within a space. His performance in Ljubljana will offer an encounter with a musician who compellingly blurs the boundaries between classical music, electronics and contemporary sound practices.
