The exhibition focuses on processes of modernisation in education in the territory of present-day Slovenia and its neighbouring regions. It addresses the growing role of the state, the expansion of the school network, the eradication of illiteracy, and the emergence of new social values.

The exhibition covers an extended chronological span, from the reforms of Maria Theresa at the end of the eighteenth century (the beginnings of mass elementary education under the influence of the Enlightenment) to the Second World War (education in the Slovenian language as a comprehensive system against the backdrop of value-based tensions between Catholicism, liberalism, and Yugoslavism).

The exhibition consists of twenty-two panels featuring a total of fifty-three images with accompanying texts in Slovenian and English.
