Stories from the Past: Slovenia's Remarkable Archaeological Heritage Brought Together for the First Time at the Cankarjev Dom Gallery.

The Slovenian territory hides an exceptionally rich history, which you can now experience in a completely new, comprehensive way. For the first time in Slovenia in a single venue, the Cankarjev Dom Gallery is showcasing a priceless collection that includes:

  • over 110 original archaeological artifacts,
  • five precise copies,
  • one reconstruction.

This unique cultural project is the result of close collaboration, with as many as ten Slovenian museums contributing exhibits to unite the treasures of our shared heritage.

Every Object Has its Owner and Destiny

The exhibition goes beyond the mere presentation of historical facts; it puts people at the center. Each exhibit tells its own personal and unique story. It was made, crafted, cherished, worn, used, lost, or discarded by someone who actually lived, traveled, or fought on the territory of modern-day Slovenia.

Through these personal items, we catch a glimpse of the daily lives, beliefs, and challenges of our ancestors.

A Journey Through Slovenia's Key Archaeological Sites

Alongside individual archaeological finds, you will discover major archaeological sites from all parts of Slovenia. The exhibition guides you through a fascinating narrative of the Slovenian past, as mapped out by the meticulous discoveries and research of archaeology.

They invite you to step into this inspiring time machine and explore the roots of the land we shape today through the lens of archaeology!
