Pleasant Ascent to a Scenic Summit with a Park of Century-Old Trees
Osolnik is a treeless peak and one of the highest in the Polhov Gradec Dolomites. At its summit stands the late Baroque Church of St Hermagoras and St Fortunatus surrounded by a beautiful park with century-old trees. The slopes below the summit are either forested or grassy, and views open up from the top of the rest of the Polhov Gradec Dolomites and the Kamnik–Savinja Alps. You’ll reach Osolnik via a pleasant, comfortable path, initially sheltered by forest and accompanied by the gentle murmur of a stream, then emerging among scenic pastures.

The marked mountain trail to Osolnik begins in the valley of the Ločnica stream at Trnovec. You’ll see a mountain trail signpost for Osolnik by the road, opposite an extended gravel lay-by suitable for parking.
At first, you'll walk for quite some time along a wide forest track beside the babbling stream. You stay sheltered in the forest even after the gravel road narrows to a cart track, which then becomes a steeper but well-made path. Eventually, the trail reaches a gravel road but soon leads you back into the forest and onto a narrower path. This path ends at the Osolnik log cabin; from there onwards, you follow a wider gravel track and finally a well-trodden grassy path towards the summit.
The final section of the trail is particularly scenic, with views rolling across grazing slopes and hillside homesteads towards the rest of the Polhov Gradec Dolomites. At the summit, the view extends to the high mountains.
Benches have been placed by the church and in the sheltered park among the trees for visitors to rest and relax.
Descent: via the ascent path.
