Slovenia may not be known for its golf, but it’s a popular destination! Here’s our guide to the best golf courses in Ljubljana and Slovenia.

That's a pretty usual question for locals and foreign visitors of Ljubljana. Before we attempt to answer the question we have to ask ourselves what it is that we expect from this coffee.

“Je v Siski se kaj odprtega?”

“Is anything still open in Šiška?” sang Vlado Kreslin, Slovenia’s most popular folk-rock musician, in one of his songs. Back in the early 90s, the answer would have been “not much.” Today, it’s an entirely different story. Šiška is a lively cultural quarter of Ljubljana, with many points of interest to draw the intrepid tourist who is in search of something alternative and intriguing, beyond the bustling touristic center of the city. But it’s also something of a secret—ask folks from elsewhere in Ljubljana and they might not be aware of just how cool Šiška has become, and how many points of interest await visitors willing to explore beyond Ljubljana’s cozy center.

With vivid hues and falling leaves swirling in the autumn wind, the change in seasons invites to explore the great outdoors. While there is an interlude with the warm early autumn days slowly blending into crisp days, this is the best time to go out for a walk. Here are my top four locations in the Ljubljana city centre to soak up those vibrant colours of autumn.

At the turn of the century, many European cities embraced the new art movement called Art Nouveau or secession, that left its mark on art, architecture and design. Ljubljana was no exception, therefore typical secession style can be seen on numerous buildings, all inspired by scenes from nature, religion, folklore and geometry.

If you really want to get to know a country, you have to visit its market. And the Central Market in Ljubljana is something very special. Here is where the farmers bring their finest produce - the treasures of Slovenia, the very best that the season has to offer.

You’ll find many walks through Ljubljana in various guidebooks – but mine is a very special one. I’m taking you to see some ‘uniquenesses’. Strictly-speaking, that might not be a word, but it’s the best way to describe this collection of fascinating objects and sights.

If you visit Ljubljana's city centre there are two churches you won’t be able to miss – Saint Nicholas’s Cathedral and the uniquely coloured pink Church of the Annunciation located on the Prešernov trg square. But if you like a good story, appreciate interesting architecture and history there are more churches in the capital of Slovenia that you can visit. Here are the ones that I’d recommend.
