Slovenia may not be known for its golf, but it’s a popular destination! Here’s our guide to the best golf courses in Ljubljana and Slovenia.

Every few years, waterfalls in a picturesque gorge close to Ljubljana freeze and attract ice-climbing enthusiasts to their beautiful, yet technically not too demanding ice-climbing opportunities.

Every city trip consists of your typical touristy activities such as local cuisine, sightseeing and of course cultural activities like visiting museums and galleries. Ljubljana's compact size makes gallery and museum hopping very easy and some of them are free of charge which makes Ljubljana a perfect arty getaway when you're on a budget.

I know that no matter how meticulously I plan our trips, I have no say over weather. It might be sunny, but we are always prepared for a rainy day. To help you enjoy Ljubljana with your family, come what may, we have prepared a list of our favourite three museums, all conveniently located in the centre of the city. Up among the bush, just a few kilometers south of Ljubljana, binoculars in one hand and a camera in the other, I’m mesmerized by a beautiful sight; a herd of roe deer munching their way through rusty-colored plains. I’d planned spending a few hours exploring the Ljubljana Marshes, wetlands greatly diverse in wildlife, and ended doing a 17-km circle and returning there over the next few days. To say the least, the Ljubljana Marshes themselves were a treat and are easily my favorite place for a relaxing adventure near the capital.

Vegetarian, vegan, raw, gluten free, you name it. No matter your dietary preference, Ljubljana is most definitely slowly but steadily paving its way on becoming a true veggie destination.

The urban planning vision by the world famous architect Jože Plečnik which made Ljubljana look unique, also preserved its vast green spaces for the future generations. Besides that Plečnik was implementing sustainable solutions at a time when no one had even talked about them yet.

A small yet captivating hill just 20 km from Ljubljana crowned with an enchanting white church and views over the hilly countryside to the west of Slovenia’s capital. With an easy hiking trail leading through a forest, it’s recommended for families and those seeking a relaxing outdoor adventure throughout the year.

A lonely hill to the north of the city, Šmarna Gora is not only one of the most popular hiking destinations in Ljubljana, but also a place for great photography, spectacular views, food, and relaxation. The most fascinating time to visit? Definitely morning.

When exploring Slovenia there is a lot to be said about the smaller towns, often offering more than meets the eye. Vrhnika, showcasing its history and nature in its brand new Ljubljanica River museum, is a good case in point. If you are a history lover, the ancient artifacts along with the story of how Vrhnika is transforming itself these days, will make for a compelling half-day trip.
