Most true hikers would frown upon this suggestion for a hike. True, Rožnik hill is only 391-metre-high hill. But it's a pleasant change from the hustle and bustle of the crowded centre of Ljubljana. It also offers plenty of trails to choose from, enough shade to keep you cool even on the hottest of days and you can have refreshments on the top. Kids? They have a playground. So, what are you waiting for?

Gotham might have Batman, but Ljubljana has the true heroes - bats. In only one hour just one of those small creatures can deal with 500 bad guys – mosquitoes and other pests that annoy us. They are an important part of our capital and can be easily observed – if you know where and how to look. I talked to the Slovenian association for bat research and conservation to learn more about Ljubljana’s mysterious inhabitants.

‘We could move,’ I told my husband with a wavering voice. ‘Just imagine,’ I tried to get us both excited, ‘leaving the hustle and bustle of the city for the quiet.’ I stopped. That wasn’t it. I tried to think but I couldn’t find an upside to justify the decision to move from Ljubljana to the country side, other than the prices of real estate. I like the hustle and bustle of the city. It’s actually one of the reasons I love Ljubljana.
