As much as I tout Slovenia's summers being amazing, there's still a tiny corner of my soul that itches for cooler temperatures. Shady forests, rivers, gorges, waterfalls, and Alpine villages, you say? I know a place just a short drive from Ljubljana that’s got it all!

Ljubljana’s wine scene is something to write home about. You already know Slovenia is a home of many wine regions and wine varieties and luckily, they all come together in many wine bars and wine themed events that will spice up your Ljubljana visit. If you visit Ljubljana's city centre there are two churches you won’t be able to miss – Saint Nicholas’s Cathedral and the uniquely coloured pink Church of the Annunciation located on the Prešernov trg square. But if you like a good story, appreciate interesting architecture and history there are more churches in the capital of Slovenia that you can visit. Here are the ones that I’d recommend.

Traveldudes had quite a journey when they visited Ljubljana and Central Slovenia in May 2016. Apart from many outdoor adventures they had, they also took time to explore the food scene. They made a series of three videos about it. The first one is a great overview of Ljubljana's restaurant scene.

Up among the bush, just a few kilometers south of Ljubljana, binoculars in one hand and a camera in the other, I’m mesmerized by a beautiful sight; a herd of roe deer munching their way through rusty-colored plains. I’d planned spending a few hours exploring the Ljubljana Marshes, wetlands greatly diverse in wildlife, and ended doing a 17-km circle and returning there over the next few days. To say the least, the Ljubljana Marshes themselves were a treat and are easily my favorite place for a relaxing adventure near the capital.

If you really want to get to know a country, you have to visit its market. And the Central Market in Ljubljana is something very special. Here is where the farmers bring their finest produce - the treasures of Slovenia, the very best that the season has to offer.

Krvavec is the local mountain of the "Ljubljančani" – in fact, flying into Ljubljana, you can almost shake hands with it on the way down. Part of the Kamnik Alps, this spectacular mountain group stretches up from 1,600 to 2,000 metres. Just 20 minutes from the city centre, It’s a fabulous year-round outdoor playground.
